Iraq, Jordan Plan Gas Pipeline

Iraq has agreed for start of the construction of a long awaited gas pipeline to Jordan, Jordan Times has reported.

Amman and Baghdad will begin the initial planning of a several hundred kilometre pipeline to carry heavy oil and natural gas to the Port of Aqaba. A portion of the natural gas to be transported via the pipeline will be supplied to Jordan at a price to be set by the two governments at a later stage.

Jordan is also planning to import gas from Qatar and officials from two nations will meet to discuss a deal. The kingdom is facing gas shortage due to continued disruptions in Egyptian gas supplies, which are currently at 10 per cent of their capacity of 300 million cubic feet.
